Southbury Rochambeau Traverse - June 6, 2026

The Southbury Rochambeau Traverse was a 6-mile hike from the Woodbury town line to the Housatonic River Bridge near Newtown. Organized by the Southbury Land Trust and the Southbury America 250th Committee, the event commemorated the route that Comte de Rochambeau and his 5,000 French troops took through Southbury during the American Revolution nearly 250 years ago. Southbury Land Trust President Joe Ruggiero planned and led the hike, while Town Historian John Dwyer provided historical context at several stops along the route. The Southbury Historical Society sponsored the new Victory Town plaque near Veterans Memorial Green on Main Street South, which was unveiled during the hike.
