Full Time or Part Time Positions

Laborer at the Southbury Transfer Station. Full time, 40 hours per week, $25.41 per hour. Performs manual labor duties including monitoring and assisting in deposit of recycling and solid waste materials, cleaning up debris and litter, placing and securing tarps on containers, preparing trailers for transport, loading materials, moving appliances, electronics and car batteries, clearing snow and ice from walkway and bins, checking vehicles for permits, and other manual work assignments. Work frequently involves heavy lifting and strenuous tasks and is performed out-of-doors involving exposure to varying climatic conditions. Must be DEEP certified (or pass certification within 3 months as a CT Transfer Station Operator and must possess or be able to obtain a CDL A motor vehicle license within nine months.

Planning Director. Full time, 35 hours/week with a comprehensive benefits package. The successful candidate will be able to exercise discretionary and independent judgement to administer, enforce, and interpret State Statutes, Town of Southbury Ordinances and Regulations relating to Planning and the Town of Southbury's Plan of Conservation and Development. Administers the land use regulatory process for the Planning, Zoning, and Inland Wetland Commissions. Coordinates the activities of the land use Boards and Commissions, outside agencies, and the public. Responsibilities include attendance at evening meetings as required and to perform site inspections after hours and on weekends as needed. Prepares and manages department budget as delegated, administers department policies and procedures. Minimum qualifications: B. A. Degree in Planning or related field and five years of experience in the land use field. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) Certification or obtain within two years of hire. Project Administrator at Public Works Department. Full-time, 35 hours/week with comprehensive benefit package. The Project Administrator will assist in managing and coordinating construction and repair projects for Town infrastructure. Duties include: preparing bid documents and RFPs, monitoring projects for cost, quality and schedule, assisting in preparation of plan designs and cost estimates, obtaining vendor quotes and maintaining project records. Required Qualifications: Bachelor degree in project management, construction management, IT, accounting, engineering or related field. Two (2) years of experience in the management of public works projects or its equivalent. Knowledge of road construction and maintenance and general construction methods and technology. Outside Maintenance. Temporary summer position, May thru August. 40+ hours per week at $16 per hour, no benefits. Duties will include, but not limited to grass cutting, athletic field maintenance and cleaning of park/playground areas.

Summer Camp Counselor. Parks and Rec Department position. Serves as a staff member responsible for youth in the Camp Counselor’s assigned group, and assists in implementing camp program activities, events, and health and safety procedures. Collaborates with other counselors, creates recreational plans and activities, and leads campers in fun-filled projects. Teenscape Summer Camp Counselor. Parks and Rec Department position. Serves as an adult responsible for a group of teens that travel to a different activity location in the surrounding areas daily. Per Diem (As Needed)

Assistant Animal Control Officer. Per Diem, as needed position. Under the direction of the Animal Control Officer, the Assistant Animal Control Officer receives and responds to complaints regarding domestic animals and wildlife from the general public and enforces all relevant State and Town laws, ordinances and policies. Possession of a valid CT motor vehicle license is required. Must obtain rabies vaccination and stay current with shots. Mini-Bus Driver/Utility. Seeking a flexible, part time schedule? Looking for rewarding days assisting seniors? Interested in taking local day trips to museums, local attractions and shows? The Town of Southbury Senior Services Department is seeking drivers, to drive 12 passenger buses, on daily local trips as well as in and out of state field trips with our seniors. Two shift scheduling allows for 8:00 AM to 12:30PM or 12:00 PM to 5:00PM shifts. Occasional weekend shifts also available. No prior experience necessary, although applicants must hold State of Connecticut Public Service license with medical F endorsements signed by an approved physician (minimum “F” endorsement, others will not be considered). May also be used as a utility person to help with various tasks at the Senior Center. $16.50 per hour.
