MESSAGE FROM P&R DIRECTOR

I hope everyone enjoyed their spring break and spring holidays! Whether you traveled or stayed home, it’s an exciting time of year with the transition to a new season and summer on the horizon. Our Public Works crew has been busy getting the fields ready for the sports leagues and we are thankful for all their hard work! Seman Park remains closed after extensive flood damage, and we appreciate your cooperation in staying off those fields while it is leveled out and re-seeded. Since we are unable to use those fields, there will be a lot of activities and cars at Settlers Park and Community Park, so please allow extra time to find parking in designated parking spaces.

The staff at Parks and Rec are looking forward to summer camp, the opening of the new pool at Ballantine, seeing seeds come to life at the Community Garden, and Art in the Park on Saturday May 17th. In May we also have a lifeguard re-certification class, a free Wellness workshop for cancer survivors, and the Centergy exercise class offered at night, so be sure to read on for all the details!

Thank you for making our second Spring Extravaganza a success! Special thanks to all our volunteers. We appreciate the tremendous support our community showed the Southbury Food Bank. We collected 8 bins of critical needs foods that went directly onto the shelves of our local bank and an additional $150 dollars in donations. To donate year round, please visit southburyfoodbank.org. More photos on web album or on Facebook.

GUESSING CONTEST

We received a record-breaking 214 submissions in the Southbury Parks and Rec's winter guessing game. The correct number of 131 toys was guessed EXACTLY, and not by one but by TWO participants! Both Grayson and Tessa submitted the correct number and will be joining us for a free Parks and Recreation Clubhouse activity.

SNOW SCULPTURE CONTEST

New location for summer concerts!

Southbury Parks and Recreation has been working with local musicians to improve the location of our summer concerts. The vision was to have something more official than a spot on the grass, so this year, bands will be performing under the gazebo at Settlers Park. Now the whole family can tag along - parents can enjoy live music and kids can enjoy the playground and fields. Mark your calendars for every Monday in July from 6-8PM! You can view the concert schedule at www.southbury-ct.org/park-rec/events.
