Southbury Parks & Recreation in partnership with Middlebury Parks and Recreation and the Pomperaug Basketball Community is offering recreation and travel basketball focusing on fun, teamwork, and the development of basketball skills.

RECREATION BASKETBALL

Grades 3-8

Evaluations will take place one or two Saturdays in November. Evaluations vary from date and time per division with the date range of 11/14-11/17. Please view our website for your child’s division to see the specific date and time for tryouts/evaluations (links below). Participants will be contacted by their coach upon being placed on a team. Participants may be contacted during the week of 11/21/2022 for team updates, by their coach.

The Basketball Recreation Leagues will have one practice a week that can be held Monday-Thursday between the hours of 5-8pm (practice starting times would be either 5pm, 6pm or 7pm). Each practice time will be one hour in length. The schedule is based on the coach's availability and is predicted to be sent out after evaluation/teams are formed (around mid-November).

Each Basketball Recreation League will play one game a week, which will be held on Saturdays starting Dec. 3-Feb. 25 (excluding holidays consisting of: 12/24-12/31, and 2/18) - times will vary.

High School Basketball (Grades 9-12)

High School Basketball consists of games only and will start the weekend of January 8th. Games are predicted to be held on Sundays, however, Saturday games may occur. Participants will not go through evaluations, or have weekday practices.

Grades 5-12

Playoffs will take place in March and may consist of Saturdays and Sundays- times will vary.

TRAVEL BASKETBALL (GRADES 5-8)

The travel season runs October through March and will be a part of the Fairfield County Basketball League. All participants need to register for the travel league first, in order to participate in the tryouts. Tryout dates and times vary per division with the date range of 10/3-10/13. Please view our website for your child’s division to see the specific date and time for tryouts/evaluations (links below).

Participants who make the travel team will have their first name and last initial posted on the "Team Assignments" section on Southbury and Middlebury’s websites for the corresponding division. Participants will NOT be contacted by Southbury Parks & Recreation, Middlebury Parks & Recreation, or Pomperaug Basketball Community for players who made the team.

The travel teams will practice for 90 minutes at least one day per week (and may practice 2 days per week) from Monday-Friday. School locations will vary.

All Home Games will be held on Sundays at Rochambeau Middle School, beginning on 12.04.22 and ending on 2.26.22 (excluding holidays consisting of: 12/24-12/31, and 2/18). Times will vary. Away games may take place on different days such as Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

Playoffs will be held February - first week in March at neutral sites.

All activities are based on the weather. In the event of bad weather, during the weekdays (M-TH, 8am-4:30pm and Friday until 1pm) Southbury Parks and Recreation will send an e-mail blast out. If cancellations take place after hours, view the Pomperaug Basketball Community's Facebook Page.
