6/24/2025 - Transfer Station Permits

Transfer station permits are expiring soon. All Southbury residents wishing to use the town’s transfer station are required to renew their permit by September 1, 2025. Permits are free of charge and will be issued beginning July 1, 2025.

Residents whose cars are registered in Southbury must obtain the permit at the Transfer Station, located at 231 Kettletown Road. Vehicle registration must be provided to Transfer Station employees. Employees will remove the old permit if present and affix a new permit to the windshield of the vehicle. Employees will also collect information from each resident, including name, address, and license plate number. Any residents who refuse to allow their permit to be affixed to their vehicle will not be permitted to use the transfer station, in accordance with sec. 8-23 of the Town of Southbury’s Code of Ordinances.

Residents whose vehicle is not registered in Southbury must obtain a temporary permit at the First Selectman’s Office, located at Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main Street South, second floor. Proof of residency and vehicle registration must be shown to obtain a temporary permit. Proof documents include a tax bill, lease, or mortgage statement. Temporary permits are valid for one year.

Permits are for Southbury residents only. Residents will not be allowed to take a permit on another person’s behalf or for a vehicle not present. One permit is allowed per resident.

The new permits will be valid for three years, from July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2028.
