As we mark 25 years since September 11, 2001, Southbury remembers the lives lost and the courage of those who responded.
Southbury native Sean Schielke, a 1992 Pomperaug High School graduate, lost his life in the North Tower of the World Trade Center at age 27. "He was just so generous, and always just really there for people," his girlfriend, Sarah, remembered.
The Schielke Park Town Tree Nursery and a memorial basin by the Southbury sign in front of Town Hall serve as lasting tributes to Sean and his place in our community.
Today, we remember Sean and all those forever changed by September 11.

For the 25th Observance of September 11, 2001, American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 1607 have placed a field of American flags on Veterans Green.
In place through Monday, September 14, the field of flags serves as a tribute to the lives lost and the courage of those who responded. A visit to Veterans Green to view the display provides a moment for reflection and remembrance.
Thank you to American Legion Post 147 and VFW Post 1607 for organizing the installation.
