The Town of Southbury has partnered with SLR Consulting to undertake a comprehensive review, update, and reformatting of the Town’s Zoning Regulations.
As part of the process, The Town of Southbury will be hosting a presentation on the proposed Zoning Regulations. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Room 205 at the Southbury Town Hall, 501 Main Street South.
The presentation will be conducted by the project consultants and will address the reorganization and major amendments proposed for the Regulations. A Question and Answer session will immediately follow, and community feedback is welcomed and encouraged.
In 2023, the Southbury Planning Commission completed and adopted the Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD), which serves as a guiding document for the Town’s future growth and development. One of the plan’s key recommendations is to update the Zoning Regulations to better align with the POCD’s goals and strategies. Originally adopted in 1966, the Zoning Regulations have not undergone a full update since 1973. As a result, the current regulations have become fragmented, with language that is at times unclear and structurally outdated. The updated Zoning Regulations aim to be more user friendly, utilize modern terminology, establish contemporary development standards, enhance environmental resilience and management, and promote sustainable and high quality economic growth.
