Spring Event

The Parks and Recreation Department had the Spring Event on Saturday, March 28. The turnout was overwhelming. A fantastic time was had by all. I would like to personally thank our Parks and Recreation department, all the gracious volunteers, and the Parks and Rec Commission for hosting such a fun community event. My three and a half year old granddaughter, Pippa, was all smiles and thoroughly enjoyed the Easter bunny and live bunnies.

Mayors’ Roundtable

On Wednesday, March 18, I attended the Council of Mayors’ Roundtable at Waterbury City Hall. I was part of a panel along with the Mayors of Wolcott, Naugatuck and Waterbury as part of the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership Greater Waterbury initiative, particularly the Government Day event. The questions from future leaders were engaging and it allowed for a discussion about government roles, responsibilities, how decisions are made, town history, its people and what makes our town unique, key challenges, goals and vision for the future. Thank you to the Waterbury Regional Chamber of Commerce and our local Southbury Chamber of Commerce.

Governor Lamont Visit

On Friday, March 27, I met with Governor Ned Lamont. We toured the Southbury Training School. The visit focused on discussions about the future of the property, current conditions and Southbury’s current and long-term interests. I have been engaged with state officials and departments since I came into office. Communication with state leadership is essential for this site.

On Sunday, March 29, Lisa Antrum, who has been actively involved in fundraising efforts that support veterans, invited me to breakfast with some local Vietnam War Veterans for National Vietnam War Veterans’ Day. I was happy to spend time with some of our local veterans and honor their service to our country. Connecting directly with veterans like my father and uncles, hearing their perspectives, and showing my support is important but also very rewarding. Again, thank you to all those who have served our nation.

Budget Hearing April 13, 2026

The Board of Finance is meeting on April 6 to consider its proposals for the budget. Residents will then have an opportunity to provide feedback on the Board of Finance’s proposed budget at the upcoming public hearing scheduled for 6:30 pm on April 13. Public hearings are an important part of the budget process providing an opportunity for residents to share feedback. The final Board of Selectmen budget increased public safety service delivery in emergency communications, preserved Parks and Recreation activities, increased service at the Senior Center with the addition of a part time counter help without additional cost, and preserved Public Works service level.

Hazardous Waste Day

The regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day hosted by the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments (NVCOG) will be held on Saturday, April 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Crosby High School in Waterbury. This regional event provides Southbury residents with a safe and environmentally responsible way to dispose of items such as paints, chemicals, cleaners, and other hazardous household materials. Proper disposal helps protect public health, groundwater, and the environment. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this regional service.
