Southbury Parks & Recreation is seeking an Assistant Camp Director to join our Adventure Day Camp team for the upcoming summer season This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead a camp program for children filled with engaging activities and field trips in a fun and supportive environment. Pay Rate: $21 per hour
Hours: 35-40 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Friday

Primary Accountabilities
The Adventure Day Camp Assistant Director plays a vital role in the overall success of Adventure Day Camp (Grades 1–5), serving as the primary support to the Camp Director. This position acts as the main point of contact for Counselors-in-Training (C.I.T.s) and leads their weekly leadership training.

Responsibilities & Skills
- Provide daily supervision, evaluation, and discipline of campers and C.I.T.s
- Develop and present weekly leadership lesson plans for C.I.T. training meetings
- Assist with campers daily in a variety of recreation activities as directed by the Camp Director
- Coordinate the campers’ pool schedule with the Aquatics Supervisor
- Serve as the first point of contact for addressing camper behavior concerns
- Assist the Camp Director by monitoring the camp cell phone throughout the day for parent communications
- Organize campers into groups of 7–10 and assign counselors based on staff schedules
- Create bus seating charts for field trips, ensuring proper counselor placement for supervision
- Assume the duties of the Camp Director in their absence
- Organize and supervise vendors during on-site programs and field trips
- Assist with attendance tracking, camp records, and daily parent communications at pre-screening, sign-in, and sign-out stations
- Support staff training sessions and weekly meetings as needed
- Maintain strong communication with staff and parents, fostering respect and cooperation
- Ensure the safety and well-being of campers through high-quality risk management and strict adherence to camp standards and town/department policies
- Provide recommendations to the Camp Director regarding summer camp programming
- Assist with staff evaluations
- Support Head Camp Counselors with cleaning and end-of-day duties
- Administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two to three years of experience as a summer camp counselor (Southbury Parks & Recreation camp experience preferred)
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including telephone, copier, computer, and standard office software
- Current certification in CPR/AED, Adult and Pediatric First Aid, Medication Administration, and EpiPen use, or ability to obtain certifications prior to the start of camp
