3/12/2026 - Employment Opportunity: TeenScape Summer Camp Counselor

Southbury Parks & Recreation is seeking enthusiastic and responsible TeenScape Summer Camp Counselors for the upcoming summer season. This position offers an opportunity to lead middle school-aged campers and engage in exciting activities and field trips in a fun, safe and supportive environment. This role is perfect for energetic individuals who enjoy mentoring youth and making a positive impact.

Pay Rate: $16.94 per hour
Hours: 31 hours per week
Schedule: Monday-Thursday

Primary Accountabilities

Leads groups of middle-school aged children in a variety of recreation activities at designated sites. Works under the close supervision of the Camp Director to gain familiarity with recreation program operations, techniques and departmental standards.

Reports To

Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation and TeenScape Camp Director

Responsibilities

  • Supervise campers during field trips and enforce location site rules.
  • Assist with organizing and managing campers, maintaining discipline at all times.
  • Support the Camp Director with collecting waiver forms and handling parent communications.
  • Clean playground and park areas at the end of each shift.
  • Coordinate lost and found items with the Adventure Day Camp Head Counselor.
  • Check inventory for camp and first aid supplies.
  • Assist with pick-up and drop-off for before and after camp programs.
  • Support the Teenscape Camp Director with field trip payments and ticket distribution.
  • Review bus and field trip safety rules with campers.
  • Observe safety precautions for participants and spectators; provide first aid for minor injuries.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to assist with special recreation activities such as arts & crafts, dance, drama and sports.
  • Apply basic leadership techniques when supervising activities.
  • Plan, organize and conduct simple recreational activities.
  • Maintain familiarity with the care and use of recreational equipment.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed.
  • Foster cooperation with fellow employees and participants.

Required Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age or older and possess certification in CPR/AED and First Aid for Adult and Pediatric or receive certification prior to camp.
