The Town of Southbury is hiring a Recreation Supervisor to join the Parks & Recreation Department. The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing and directing comprehensive community recreational and aquatics programs, special events and activities. This role ensures programs meet the needs of the community while promoting a safe, engaging, and customer-focused environment.
Employment Type: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Salary Range: $68,000-$72,000

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Initiate, plan, and evaluate community recreation programs and events.
- Manage Adventure Day Camp for elementary school children and Teenscape Camp for middle school children.
- Oversee scheduling, staffing, and training for recreation programs.
- Manage recruitment and hiring of seasonal camp and aquatics staff, program instructors, and event entertainers.
- Provide exceptional customer service; address and resolve constituent concerns.
- Create marketing materials, including flyers for programs and events.
- Assist with community center room reservations and field bookings for sports leagues.
- Monitor payroll for seasonal and part-time employees.
- Teach recreation classes as needed.
- Maintain accurate records of program statistics, expenses, and revenues using online recreation software.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and confidentiality requirements.
- Stay current with recreational trends and pursue professional development.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of municipal recreation programming and administration.
- Ability to develop and implement short- and long-term plans for programs and activities.
- Strong leadership skills to supervise and train staff, instructors, and volunteers.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and varied hours as needed.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Recreation or Leisure Services and 2-5 years of recreation and supervisory camp experience in similar settings. Equivalent combinations of education, experience and training may be considered. Must possess and maintain a valid CT Driver’s License.
