The Town of Southbury is seeking a dynamic and experienced Director of Information Technology to lead and manage all aspects of Town information technology operations. This is a key leadership position responsible for aligning technology initiatives with the Town’s strategic goals, ensuring data security and delivering excellent IT services to staff and the public.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the daily operations of the Town’s IT department, ensuring the reliability, security and efficiency of all technology systems and services.
- Develop, manage and monitor the annual IT operating budget and technology reserve fund, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with strategic priorities.
- Develop and implement the Town’s IT strategic plan, aligning technology initiatives with Southbury’s long-term goals and operational needs.
- Supervise, mentor and evaluate IT personnel, fostering a collaborative team environment focused on professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Ensure high quality customer service for all Town staff by providing timely and effective support for technology-related issues.
- Oversee the administration of telecommunications systems, including phone systems, wireless services and video conferencing platforms.
- Maintain accurate records of all IT assets, hardware inventory and software licenses to support compliance and lifecycle management.
- Establish and enforce IT policies and procedures that promote data security, privacy and responsible technology use across the organization.
- Stay current with industry trends and best practices, proactively identifying opportunities for technological improvement and innovation.
- Manage the deployment of new software and hardware, including system upgrades, integrations and security enhancements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Comprehensive understanding of IT management principles and strategic planning.
- Strong proficiency in process analysis and systems design methodologies.
- Demonstrated success in leading complex projects, managing cross-functional teams, coordinating with vendors and contractors and delivering results across multiple initiatives.
- Advanced skills in managing and operating Microsoft platforms and applications, including Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, IIS, Terminal Services, SQL Server, Microsoft Office Suite and current Windows desktop environments.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills. Proven ability to analyze problems and recommend effective, practical solutions.
- High level of customer service orientation with a commitment to responsive and respectful support.
- Sound judgement in decision-making with awareness of potential financial, operations and legal impacts. Responsibility in handling confidential information.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field and 5 to 7 years of progressively responsible experience in IT management, including staff supervision, project leadership and budget administration.
- Must be able to obtain Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification with annual renewal.
