2/14/2024 - Hedda Hopper & Louella Parsons: Malice in Hollywoodland on March 7, 2024

On Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to the Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program about two famous women from old Hollywood: Hedda Hopper and Louella Parsons.

Powerful women in fields dominated by men, these two invented and perfected the art of movie gossip, glorifying some and ruthlessly destroying others. One was a frustrated screenwriter, the other a frustrated actress. A frank and sometimes hilarious look at the unique personal rivalry that propelled two legendary journalistic careers – reshaping Hollywood along the way.

Entertainment historian John Kenrick has worked in the theatre at every level from amateur to Broadway, eventually serving as personal assistant to six Tony Award winning producers, including the team behind the original production of Rent. He has taught musical theatre history courses at New York University’s Steinhardt School, The New School University, and Philadelphia’s University of the Arts.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Library. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
