6/28/2023 - Horizon Wings Principles of Flight on July 17, 2023

The Southbury Public Library invites interested attendees to join us for Horizon Wings: Principles of Flight from 2:00-3:00pm on Monday, July 17, 2023 in the Kingsley Room of the Southbury Public Library. This event is aimed at Grades 6-12, but older elementary school aged children and adults are also invited to join.

What makes a bird able to fly? Explore the differences in the flying and hunting techniques of four species of raptors, including an American Kestrel, a Peregrine Falcon, a Red-Tailed or Broad-winged Hawk, an owl, and an eagle. What makes an American Kestrel able to “kite”? What are the special anatomical features that make the Peregrine Falcon the fastest creature on the planet? Find out from the birds themselves and Mary-Beth Kaeser of Horizon Wings. This event is free, but registration is required. It is aimed at Grades 6-12, but older elementary school aged children and adults are also invited to join.

About Horizon Wings: Horizon Wings was formed in 2001 by Mary-Beth Kaeser as a 501C3 non-profit Wildlife Rehabilitation Center specializing in Birds of Prey located in Ashford, CT. They have several raptors that cannot be released back into the wild due to their injuries. They keep these injured birds at their center and, with a special permit, use them for educational programs. All of their funding is provided by educational programs, donations, and grants.

Registration is required. Learn more and register on the library’s website at www.southburylibrary.org/events. This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library, free, and open to residents of any town.
