3/15/2023 - Children’s and Teen Programs for April 2023

The Southbury Public Library Youth Services department is pleased to announce events for April 2023 for children and teens. We are offering a variety of programs this month. All programs are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library. For more information and to register online please visit our website: www.southburylibrary.org/events.

Children’s Programs:

Open House Make or Take Craft – Saturday, April 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29. Stop by the Youth Services department Saturdays to make a thematic craft. Make it here or bring it home. Crayons and glue available in the library. Available while supplies last.

Drop-In Storytime – Monday, April 3, 10, 17, & 24 at 10:30 am in the Storytime Room. Join Miss Jennifer for stories, rhymes, and a small craft every Monday. All ages welcome. No registration required.

ARTuesday – Tuesday, April 4 at 5pm in the Storytime room. Stop by for a playful, messy, and expressive art experience where there is no right or wrong. Come play and experiment with a variety of art mediums and themes. Smocks recommended. Ages 7 & up. Drop-In; No registration required.

Food Explorers: Chocolate Banana Cream Pie - Thursday, April 6 from 4-5 pm in the Kingsley Room. Make a delicious treat with the registered nutritionists from Food Explorers. This month, you’ll enjoy making a quick snack version of banana cream pies. Ages 7 & up. Registration required.

Babies & Books – Tuesday, April 11, 18, & 25 at 10:30am in the Storytime Room. Babies & Books is a lapsit program for children 6 to 24 months and their parents/caregivers. Listen to short stories and songs. Registration required.

Lego to the Library – Tuesday, April 11 at 4pm in the Storytime Room. Join us for an afternoon of LEGO fun! We’ll provide the LEGO bricks, and you bring the creativity! You can free build, or work off of instructions. Pomperaug High School senior Dylan B. will be running this event alongside library staff as a part of his Senior Year Experience Project. Grades 1-5. Registration required.

Toddler Time – Wednesday, April 12, 19, & 26 at 10:30am in the Storytime Room. Toddler Time is for children ages 2 & 3 years and their parents/caregivers. Listen to stories and complete a small craft. Registration required.

Food Explorers Baking – Thursday, April 13 at 10am in the Kingsley Room. Join Food Explorers for a special two hour baking workshop! You’ll create two delicious recipes: Oatmeal Cookie Sandwiches and Cheesecake Eggrolls. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

Stories and More - Thursday, April 13, 20, & 27 at 10:30 am in the Storytime Room. Stories & Crafts is for children ages 4 & 5 able to sit and pay attention independently. Listen to stories and complete a craft or activity. Registration required.

Saturday Family Storytime - Saturday, April 15 at 10:30am in the Storytime Room. Join us for a special storytime for the whole family. We will share some stories and songs together. Parents and older siblings are encouraged to join in for this family event. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Tiny Food Explorers – Tuesday, April 18 at 11 am in the Kingsley Room. Join Tiny Food Explorers for some fun with food! You’ll make a hands-on healthy snack that even the pickiest of eaters will be keen to try. All snack ingredients will be nut free but may contain dairy. No food will be shared. Ages 2-5 & caregivers. Space is limited. Registration is required.

Stuffie Library Sleepover - Thursday, April 27 at 6 pm in the Storytime Room. Grab your PJs and a stuffed friend and join Miss Jen for a special PJ Storytime with your stuffie! Listen to bedtime stories, songs & rhymes and complete a small craft. After storytime, you can choose to leave your stuffie here at the library for a special sleepover. The next day, you can pick up your stuffie and receive a letter and photos of their amazing adventures at the library! All ages welcome. Registration required.

Teen Programs:

Teen Trivia Jeopardy - Tuesday, April 11 from 6-7pm in the Brown Room. Join us for a fun, Jeopardy-style trivia contest! Test your knowledge of different topics, including history, music, and science fiction! With some questions being multiple choice, we'll have a range of difficulties. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Protect Your Peeps - Wednesday, April 12 from 2-3pm in the Storytime Room. Multiple Teams, Multiple Peeps. One Goal: Destroy the other teams' peeps before they destroy yours. Spend the first part of the program building forts to protect your peeps and the next part of the program trying to destroy the other teams' peeps with marshmallows. All materials will be provided. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Food Explorers: Special Baking Workshop - Thursday, April 13 from 1-3pm in the Kingsley Room. Join Food Explorers for a special two hour baking workshop! You’ll create two delicious recipes in this hands-on baking class: Lemon Raspberry Whoopie Pies, and Mini Buttercream Cakes you'll decorate yourself. These recipes are nut free, but will contain gluten and dairy. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Teen DIY: Cloud Lamps - Thursday, April 20 from 6-7pm in the Kingsley Room. What comes with April showers? Rain clouds! Join us to make these fun and easy cloud lamps. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Food Explorers: Chopped! Tacos - Thursday, April 27 from 4-5pm in the Kingsley Room. Join Food Explorers for a round of Chopped! You’ll be making Tacos as a team, and working together you’ll choose from an assortment of delicious and fresh ingredients to make your tasty taco recipe. All ingredients are nut free but may contain dairy and/or eggs. Grades 6-12. Registration required.
