		12/16/2022 - Employment Opportunity: Head of Youth Services Librarian
	
		
The Town of Southbury is hiring a full-time Head of Youth Services Librarian at the Southbury Public Library. The position is 35 hours/week and offers a comprehensive benefits package. Salary range is $55,000-$65,000/year. This position is responsible for the development and administration of youth services offered at the Library and supervision of the Children and Teen departments.
Responsibilities:
    - Plans, develops, and implements children’s programs, book clubs, presentations, summer reading programs and technology and craft programs.
    
- Performs collection development services for children’s collections, catalogues children library materials and curates the collection on a continuous basis to ensure suitability and currency.
    
- Coordinates children library services with the regional school system and performs outreach to various groups and agencies.
    
- Monitors expenditures for the Children and Teen departments ensuring spending adheres to the budget.
    
- Prepares readers’ advisories, reading lists and other materials for the Children’s department.
    
- Provides training and instruction to patrons in use of reference materials, computers, iPads, microfilm readers and various other technology equipment and software.
    
- Plans displays for the children’s section and other library areas.
    
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    - Thorough knowledge of services provided in a public library setting and strong knowledge of library principles and practices, particularly classification and cataloguing systems.
    
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and staff in a friendly and professional manner.
    
- Knowledge of computer software used in public library operations.
    
- Experience with Children and Teen Library programs, services and collection development.
    
Required Qualifications:
    - A Master's degree in Library Sciences from an ALA accredited college or university plus five or more years of related experience. A combination of experience and education may be considered.
