5/24/2022 - The Rutledge Summer Series: Reading Beyond the Beaten Path-Waterbury's Brass Buttons on June 23, 2022

On Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to the Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about the history of brass buttons in Waterbury.

Waterbury was nicknamed the Brass City after becoming the center of America’s brass industry in the 1800s, but did you know that brass buttons started it all? Join us and learn about the history of Waterbury’s brass buttons and admire the intricate art of the buttons of the Waterbury Button Museum. You will even get the chance to see some of the buttons in the Button Museum's collection up close!

Elise Vanase is the Manager of Public Programs with the Mattatuck Museum. She comes from the Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry, having attended the University of Connecticut for a BFA in Puppet Arts. She's been with the museum for over six months now and has learned a lot about the area's history in her time here.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. The Rutledge Summer Series was made possible by the Charles H. and Ella Emery Rutledge Fund. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program.
