The Southbury Public Library Youth Services department is pleased to announce programming for June 2021 for children and teens. Children’s Programs:

Open House Take & Make Saturday Craft – Saturday, June 5, 12, 19 & 26
Stop by the Youth Services department every Saturday to take home a thematic craft. Available while supplies last.

Drop-In Storytime - Monday, June 7, 14, 21 & 28 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for stories and songs every Monday. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

Food Explorers: Zucchini Naan Bread – Monday, June 7 at 5:00 pm on Zoom
Join Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers and learn how to make Zucchini Naan Bread with a roasted veggie dip. Ages 7 & up and families. Registration is required.

Our Favorite Books – Tuesday, June 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 12:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for a read aloud of some of our favorite stories each Tuesday afternoon. All ages. No registration required.

First Chapter Friday – Friday, June 11 & 18 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather as we explore some of our favorite chapter books each Friday afternoon. Recommended for grades 1-5. No registration required.

Storytime with Katie – Wednesday, June 2, 9, 16, 23 & 30 at 10:30 am on Facebook Live
Join Miss Katie for stories and songs geared towards toddlers and older. Crafts available in the Youth Services department while supplies last. All ages welcome. No registration required.

StoryWalk: Cat’s Colors – Begins Monday, June 14 outside on the library grounds
Take a walk around the Southbury Public Library while enjoying a story. Follow along to Cat’s Colors by Airlie Anderson as you follow our first ever StoryWalk. Stop inside for a Take & Make craft based on the story.

Summer Reading begins on Saturday, June 19 – Register online via READsquared. Log your reading time, attend programs. See our website for details. https://www.southburylibrary.org/

STEAMonday: Rainbow STEAM – Monday, June 21 at 4:00 pm on Facebook Live
Join Miss Heather for an afternoon of science fun. This month we’re exploring rainbows. Recommended for ages 7 & up. No registration required.

Celestial Whale Craft – Thursday, June 24 at 4:30 pm on Zoom
Miss Katie will share whale themed stories as we make an out of this world cetaceans. Grades 2-5. Registration required.

White Memorial Conservation Center: Way to Grow!– Friday, June 25 at 3:00 pm on Zoom
Join Education Director Carrie Szwed to compare and contrast the growth and life cycles of several local animal species. Grades 1-3 & families. Registration required.

Food Explorers: No Churn Ice Cream – Monday, June 28 at 11:00 am on Zoom
Join Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers and learn how to make No Churn Ice Cream with chocolate fudge sauce. Ages 7 & up and families. Registration is required.

Teen Programs:

Teen DIY To Go: Rainbow Bookmarks – Starting Monday, June 14 while supplies last.
Pick up complete kits to make a felt and elastic rainbow bookmark from the Teen Department starting Monday, June 14. These colorful bookmarks feature an elastic strap, helping them to stay in place for either your current book or a notebook or journal. Each kit will have instructions and all supplies needed (except scissors). You can work on the kits in your own time, or you can wait and work on them together with us during our Virtual Meetup!

Decorated Focaccia Bread Making Workshop – Tuesday, June 8, 4-6pm on Zoom
Join Food Explorers for this special bread making workshop! You’ll make your own focaccia bread masterpiece by decorating with fresh vegetables and herbs, and make dinner rolls from scratch in this two hour class. Space is limited so Katie has time to answer individual questions and walk everyone through this program. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

LitLoot Book Subscription Boxes for Teens – Sign Ups for the July Box Begin Tuesday, June 15
Get two book selections customized to you along with some extra add-ons in this box of book magic! Register and fill out our survey starting Tuesday, June 15. Your personalized box with two library books and extra goodies will be available to pick up from the library starting Thursday, July 1. Spots are limited. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Food Explorers: Strawberry Lemon Blondies – Wednesday, June 16, 5-6pm on Zoom
Join Katie, Registered Dietitian from Food Explorers to make Cheesy Broccoli Orzo for dinner! to make Strawberry Lemon Blondies! These brownie alternatives are stuffed full of fruit and citrus for a dessert that is as sweet and fresh as summer. Space is limited so Katie has time to answer individual questions and walk everyone through this program. Grades 6-12. Registration required.

Virtual Field Strip to the Wolf Conservation Center – Tuesday June 22, 2-3pm on Zoom
Experience the wonderful world of wolves from your own home! In this virtual field trip to the Wolf Conservation Center, learn about the history and biology of wolves in North America, and meet the WCC's ambassador wolves Alawa, Zephyr, and Nikai. There's even a chance to potentially see endangered red wolves and Mexican gray wolves! This program is a part of our 2021 Teen Summer Reading Program: Tails & Tales. Aimed at Grades 6-12, but open to all ages. Registration required.

Virtual Craft Meetup: Rainbow Bookmarks – Monday, June 28 at 4:00 pm on Zoom
Join us on Zoom to work on your rainbow bookmarks together! Have some company while you work on your project and ask any questions you may have. This program is a part of our 2021 Teen Summer Reading Program: Tails & Tales. Grades 6-12. Registration required.
