The Gloria Cachion Gallery at Southbury Public Library will host an exhibit of artist and photographer Georgia Sheron from September 4th through September 29th, 2019. The exhibit will be a retrospective of Ms. Sheron’s work spanning several styles and media and will include work done in Connecticut, Italy, and Monhegan Island, Maine in the last 50 years. The artist passed away in late January of 2019 and was greatly respected by critics, peers and the public.
Georgia Sheron was a member of Professional Photographers of America and holds their certificate as a Master Photographic Craftsman. She was a five time winner of the Kodak Award of Excellence and the Fuji Masterpiece Award and was twice the recipient of Master Photographer of the Year. Her work graced the cover of Professional Photographer magazine as well as many book covers for Random House and CD covers for musicians.
Ms. Sheron’s work is in the collection of the Mattatuck Museum and her photographic project “Uncle John” is on permanent display at the Southbury Public Library. Shirley Michaels, chair of the Library Board and curator of the Gloria Cachion Gallery said, “While Georgia is known primarily for the ‘Uncle John’ series, she often experimented with, and exhibited other types of photographs. She was gracious in allowing our gallery to hang these wonderful canvasses throughout the years. We had a special relationship with Georgia. Everyone wants to celebrate and honor her for what she has done for the library, for Southbury and the community.”
The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M.; Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 A.M. to 9:00 P.M.; Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and Sunday from 12:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
