7/23/2026 - Annie: 50 Years of "Tomorrow" on August 21, 2026

On Friday, August 21, 2026 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to our Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about the musical “Annie.”

How did a 1930s comic strip about an orphan girl adopted by a billionaire inspire a wildly popular stage and screen musical? And how has that musical remained an audience favorite for half a century? Entertainment historian John Kenrick shares personal memories and video clips from numerous productions of what he admits is one of his all time favorite shows.

Entertainment historian John Kenrick has worked in the theatre at every level from amateur to Broadway, eventually serving as personal assistant to six Tony Award winning producers, including the team behind the original production of Rent. He has taught musical theatre history courses at New York University’s Steinhardt School, The New School University, and Philadelphia’s University of the Arts.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency.
