Saturday, May 16, 2026 from 1-2:30pm in the Kingsley Room, join us for a program on the history of the Southbury Public Library.
May 2026 is the 20th anniversary of our 100 Poverty Road Building, making this our building's 20th Birthday! Before that, we were at 561 Main Street South from 1969 to 2006 and at 576 South Britain Road from 1904-1969. The earliest record of a library in Southbury is from November 1776, also making us at least 250 years old. Come listen to the history of the library in all its forms, and bring your own stories and memories of the Southbury Library.
Melinda K. Elliott grew up with a keen interest in history. She is always researching some historical topic and loves delving into the stories of long-forgotten people. Melinda is the president of the Southbury Historical Society, and director of The Bullet Hill School – A Living Museum program.
Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library. Registration is required. Please visit the link below for more information and to register.
