1/15/2026 - And Still We Rise: Harriet Tubman on February 5, 2026

On Thursday, February 5, 2026 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to our Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about Harriet Tubman.

Born in upstate New York in 1822, Harriet Tubman helped to reshape America. Tubman, born Araminta Ross, often referred to as the "Black Moses" of the Underground Railroad, dedicated her life to creating safe passages for slaves to escape to freedom. By the time of her death in 1913 at the age of 91, she had risen from the shadows of slavery to a prominent role of leadership. Join us as we explore the life of Harriet Tubman.

Led by Dr. Bill Thierfelder, a retired college professor who taught a variety of Arts and Humanities courses for 32 years at several New York universities and colleges, including St. John's University and Dowling College. He holds a Ph.D. in English, with minors in theater, art history and music history.

Like all Southbury Public Library programs, this program is free to attend and open to anyone regardless of town of residency. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Southbury Public Library. Registration is required. Zoom invitation links will be sent via email on the day of the program.
