8/20/2025 - The Atomic Bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on September 19, 2025

On Friday, September 19, 2025 from 2-3:30pm on Zoom and streamed to our Kingsley Room, join us for a virtual program and learn more about the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

On August 6, 1945, history was changed forever with the atomic incineration of Japan's eighth largest city, Hiroshima. Three days later, Nagasaki was vaporized when Japan refused to surrender. This presentation will explain not only the bombing of Hiroshima, but why the Bombs were used, the political situation as it existed in August 1945 and the defenses of Japan in preparation for the invasion of the Home Islands. The Atomic Bomb drops were a turning point in the history of warfare.

Mark Albertson is the historical research editor for the Army Aviation magazine, and the historian for the Army Aviation Association of America. He has taught classes on military history at Norwalk Community College as well as the Lifetime Learners Institute. Albertson has authored several books on military history.
