6/13/2025 - Moths and More: Nighttime Pollinators Experience the underappreciated beauty of the insects who live out their lives at night! There are thousands of species of insects (including over 3000 moth species) that are strictly nocturnal in Connecticut. The best way to appreciate their underappreciated beauty and diversity is to set up a light sheet. Bent of the River Sanctuary is one of the biodiversity hotspots in Connecticut with many varied habitats. Come out and see educational displays of insect specimens, caterpillar walks, and light setups. Ray Simpson is a Lepidopterist with a focus on moths. He has a broad background in biology, from marine science to ecology and taxonomy/evolutionary biology. Ray works at the Yale library but has worked in the Peabody Museum's entomology division for over four years and was President of the Connecticut Entomological Society for five years. He spends many of his spring and summer nights out surveying for moths and other nocturnal insects all over the northeast using UV lights. Ray has led many moth nights and attended several BioBlitzes over the years and encourages the study of entomology, insect awareness, and conservation of habitats. He is a major advocate for iNaturalist in his work (username: rayray), so feel free to take pictures. This event is co-sponsored by the Southbury Land Trust. ### Event: Moths and More: Nighttime Pollinators Event Date: 6/13/2025 Event Rain Date: 6/14/2025 Event Time: 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM Admission Fee: $20 per person Registration Instructions: https://act.audubon.org/a/moths-and-more-nighttime-pollinators Event Organizers: Bent of the River Audubon Center | 203-405-9113 | kate.pratt@audubon.org | www.audubon.org/bent-river | www.facebook.com/bentoftheriver Event Location: Bent of the River Audubon Center, 185 East Flat Hill Rd.
