4/25/2023 - The Elephant-in-the-Room Series®: Courageous Conversations on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion The United Church of Christ, Southbury, will be hosting the third event in their presentation of the Elephant-in-the-Room Series® on April 25, 7 pm, at the church. Titled "Courageous Conversations on Diversity, Equity & Inclusion," the event will feature a video that illustrates a workplace meeting where people have to discuss uncomfortable DEI topics, and four video monologues that share diverse personal experiences and identities. Each video is followed by facilitated small group discussions. The goal of "Courageous Conversations" is not to promote any single focus or ideology, but to build awareness around all the different points of view that need to be included in community conversations. Created in 2017 by the New Hampshire Theatre Project, the Elephant-in-the-Room Series® presents play readings or videos followed by community conversations about topics that society often feels uncomfortable discussing. These facilitated audience conversations focus on attitudes about difficult ethical issues involved in the topics, and our responsibility as a society to bring these issues out of the shadows and into the cultural mainstream. In hosting this third event in this series, UCC Southbury is collaborating with NHTP, and S.M.A.R.T. Inc., Funding has been graciously provided by the Connecticut Community Foundation and the UCC Genesis Fund. Registrations preferred.
