Southbury Celebration

This year marked the 25th Southbury Celebration, which began with the Town’s 325th Anniversary. It was spectacular, with the largest fireworks show to date! Despite the inclement weather, thousands came out to enjoy the Town’s biggest event of the year. See the photos.

350th Photo Exhibit part 2: Early Southbury - October 3-30, 2023

A historical photography exhibit at the Southbury Public Library will feature many old images of Southbury, some dating as far as late 1800s. Click here for more information.

History Talk: “The Old Woodbury Path” – October 5, 2023 at 1:00pm

Lecturer Peter Rzasa, will uncover the old Woodbury Path, a trade route in Colonial times that led inland, up from the ports of the Long Island Sound. It played a vital role in allowing trade and industry to flourish in Southbury and surrounding towns and helped open the interior of Connecticut to Colonial life. This is a free event at the Southbury Public Library, with registration.

History Walk & 20th Anniversary Phillips Farm Celebration – October 7, 2023

Two events will be held back-to-back, organized by the Southbury Land Trust, Southbury Historical Society, and Southbury 350th Anniversary Steering Committee. From 9AM to 11AM a guided History Walk along an ancient pathway will take place beginning at Phillips Farm, followed by a large celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the Southbury Land Trust having conservation of the Phillips Farm Preserve on Sanford Road from 11AM to 3PM. Both events are free and open to the public, with no registration required or limits to attendance. Details: here.

Southbury Classics & Car Parade – October 14, 2023

Enjoy the return of a fond tradition. Held at 800 Main Street South, visitors can enjoy vintage cars, family fun and festivities, following a classic car parade that begins at 9AM in Heritage Village.

The second annual Southbury Chalk Walk will be held on Saturday, October 14th (rain date is Sunday, October 15th). In honor of the 350th, the theme this year celebrates all things Southbury. Register in advance by emailing artsculturesouthbury@gmail.com. Same day walk-ins are welcome, though supplies will be limited.

America’s Top Small Business Summit: Ready, Set, Scale - Thursday, October 19th

A full day of thought-provoking discussions and actionable tips from small business owners and leaders, including experts from Google, Walmart and Meta that champion small business. Can also livestream the evening awards gala. Register.


GRANTS


Nonprofit organizations can apply for Local Community Grants provided by Walmart and Sam's Club, ranging from $250 to $5K. Grant applications are accepted every quarter. All organizations must be CyberGrant FrontDoor verified. Submissions will be accepted through October 15.

The Tory Burch Foundation's Fellows Program annually selects 50 women entrepreneurs to participate in a yearlong initiative aimed at growing their businesses. The program provides comprehensive resources, including digital education, a $5K business education grant, and access to 0% interest loans. Applications close November 2.
