350 Years of Southbury

350th Celebration News

5/5/2023 - Historic Buildings Open House

Be a part of this rare event. All three historic buildings owned by Southbury will be opened to visitors on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 10am to 3pm. Take a step back in history by walking inside the Old Town Hall, the South Britain Library, and Bullet Hill School.

Bullet Hill School is Southbury’s oldest public building, being constructed near the time the town was incorporated. The Old Town Hall was built in 1873 which includes an old secure vault. In 1904, the South Britain Library became the first permanent library in Southbury. This tiny gem houses hundreds of books, all published before 1969.

This event is part of the CT Open House Day 2023 state-wide event, and is supported by the Southbury Historical Society, the Southbury Historic Buildings Commission and the 350th Anniversary Steering Committee.

Locations of the buildings:

  • Bullet Hill School: 215 Main Street North
  • Old Town Hall: 624 South Britain Road
  • South Britain Library: 576 South Britain Road
