5/8/2019 - United Nations Lecture - "Fostering Life Long Learning"

Achieving inclusive and quality education for all, reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development. This is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal to ensure that all girls and boys complete primary and secondary schooling by 2030 and develop skills for a life of learning at no cost. Education liberates the intellect, unlocks the imagination, and is fundamental for self-respect. It is the key to prosperity and opens a world of opportunities, making it possible for each of us to contribute to a progressive, healthy society.

Retired after 39 years in the classroom, Dennis Killian explores from a vantage point of his personal experience - the priority of education is fundamental to the future of the planet.

Admission is complimentary however, donations are greatly appreciated.

Dennis Killian, a recently retired educator, is a new Board Member of the United Nations Association of Connecticut. During his 39 years as a teacher, in public and private schools in Connecticut and Georgia, he taught grades K-12. In recent years, his focus has been on moral issues and ethics. Teaching such a wide range of ages and students from diverse ethnic backgrounds enabled him to observe a wide spectrum of learning styles and stages of human development. A life long musician, he holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a Master’s in Education. He lives with his wife Cynthia in Thomaston and together they have raised three children.
