7/7/2023 - Pickleball Courts Grand Opening on July 11, 2023

The public is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony being held Tuesday, July 11th at 1:00pm in Ballantine Park at 611 Old Field Road in Southbury to celebrate the grand opening of the Town’s new pickleball courts.

The courts were designed and installed by R.S. Site and Sports, based in Oxford, CT. Construction on the courts began in March and completion took the combined efforts of the town’s Public Works and Parks and Recreation departments, with the support of the Selectman’s Office, the Finance Department, along with the residents of Southbury who expressed the need for courts in Town.

Funding for the project was supported by the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).

“We began sharing site options and meeting with vendors back in November,” said Southbury Public Works Director, Blake Leonard. “It came together quickly and was a team effort.”

“This is great for our residents. Pickleball is ageless,” said First Selectman, Jeffrey Manville. “From youth to seniors, all can now enjoy these courts.”

“We anticipate that the pickleball courts will be a great success,” said Michael Ganem, Southbury Parks and Recreation Director. “I welcome patrons to visit our website southburyct.myrec.com to obtain information on how court reservations can be made.”
