Senior Technology Workshop Series
Boy Scout Nate Gibson will lead a series of Senior Technology Workshops in the Brown Room of the Southbury Public Library on three Thursdays in July. No computer experience or knowledge is required for this series of workshops designed to teach seniors the basics of computer use, email, and the useful Google Apps group. Each participant will have a laptop computer with a mouse to use. Space is limited to 10 participants and registration is required. Because the skills taught in each workshop are sequential, all workshops in the series must be attended. Please call 203-262-0626 ext. 130 to register.
“Workshop 1: Computer Basics” on Thursday, July 6th from 6-6:45pm will teach participants how to use a computer. Basics like the keyboard, mouse, and other features will be covered.
“Workshop 2: Email Basics” on Thursday, July 13th from 6-6:45pm will teach the basics of how to use an email account. Participants will be set up with a Gmail email account and shown how to use it. Topics covered will include how to compose and send an email, how to attach a document, and how to open an email and attachments.
“Workshop 3: Google Searching and Google Apps” on Thursday, July 20th from 6-6:45pm will teach the best tips and tricks for google searching a variety of information. This workshop will also cover Google Apps, including Calendar, Drive, Docs, and more.
Nate Gibson is a rising junior at Pomperaug Regional High School. He is involved with Pomperaug's Swim Team, Track Team, and Boy Scout Troop 1607 and enjoys debate club and playing with his personal band. He wants to help the seniors of our community to learn how to use technology more effectively, benefiting them in communicating with family members and organizing ideas and events. These workshops will be the project for his Eagle Scout award.
