Women in Shakespeare
The Southbury Public Library will host Emily Mattina, Artistic director of Shakesperience Productions in Waterbury, for a dramatic performance and discussion of leading ladies of iconic Shakespeare sonnets and monologues. This special event will take place on Tuesday, June 21st at 6:30pm in the Kingsley room.
Shakesperience Productions was founded in 1996 as a nonprofit professional educational theatre for youth. We are headquartered in Connecticut, serving schools across the state and in neighboring states. Recognized for their mission and approach, they are proud that Emily Mattina is listed on the Teaching Artist Roster and that Shakesperience is listed on the Performing Artists Roster of the Connecticut Dept. of Economic & Community Development, Arts Division.
Emily Mattina, Artistic Director hails from Lenox, Massachusetts, having availed herself of the rich cultural offerings in the Berkshires from an early age. Ms. Mattina earned a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire with a major in Theater and an M.A. in 17th Century English Literature with an emphasis on Shakespeare from the University of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England. Ms. Mattina has worked as an actor, director, teaching artist, and arts administrator for companies and regional tours based in California, Connecticut, Minnesota, and New York.
