September 2016 Movies at Southbury Public Library
The late Gene Wilder in one of his wackiest roles can be seen in the first of this month’s Wednesday afternoon movies at Southbury Public Library, showing on September 14. In a parody of an old science fiction film, he’s the grandson of an infamous scientist who returns to the home country to clear his family name. Peter Boyle, Mary Feldman, Cloris Leachman and Madeline Kahn join in his experiment.
In the September 21st film, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Julia Roberts and Jason Sudeikis star as mothers, daughters, sisters and a single father with different lives and different problems that all come together in a week leading up to the day on which we celebrate our mothers.
Gary Cooper, Patrician Neal and Raymond Massey head the cast of the 1948 film being shown on September 28. Based on the novel by Ayn Rand emphasizing individualism, Cooper plays an uncompromising architect with new ideas who refuses to yield to the traditionalists. When he discovers the plans for one of his buildings has been changed, he blows up the structure and attempts to defend his action.
The films are offered free to the public, sponsored by Friends of the Southbury Public Library with the videos provided by Connecticut Libraries. They begin at 1:00 PM in the Kingsley meeting room surround sound theater, with infrared listening system available. All have closed captioning. Because of licensing and copyright agreements, the Library cannot list the titles.. For further information, call the Library at 203-262-0626.
