Award-Winning Photographs on Display at Southbury Public Library
Roadshow of 2015’s Best Avian Photography Coming to Southbury
Visit the Southbury Public Library’s Gloria Cachion Art Gallery between February 2 and February 27 to walk among the winning bird photographs from the 2015 Audubon Photography Awards and learn more about local birdlife. The photographs are on loan from the Audubon Center Bent of the River along with local photographer Al Erickson’s exhibit of Connecticut Birds featured in the library’s Brown Room.
The winning Audubon photos were selected from more than 9,000 entries—submitted from all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and Canada and they were published in the May-June 2015 issue of Audubon magazine. A panel of five judges graded the images based on technical quality, originality, and artistic merit.
Bethlehem resident Al Erickson’s interest in bird photography began when he started walking at the Audubon Center Bent of the River. He began photographing the birds that he saw and the staff would help identity them. Over time, his knowledge about birds and expertise in photography grew. Al’s first public exhibit was at a 2010 Juried show sponsored by the Audubon Center in Fairfield. Since then he has shown his work in support of various organizations such as Connecticut Landmarks, Hungerford Hospital and Audubon.
