Latin Dances with Arthur Murray of Danbury
The Southbury Public Library will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a presentation of Latin Dances with Nicole Almeida of Arthur Murray of Danbury on Tuesday, October 11 at 7pm in the Kingsley room.
Nicole Almeida, owner of Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Danbury will give a presentation on the history of Latin dances in American culture. Nicole and her dance partner, Lazaro Chavez, will talk about how Rumba, Cha Cha, Mambo, Salsa, Merengue and Bachata were all introduced to the American dance scene, and the history of how each dance originated. They will also demonstrate each dance with traditional music from that era and modern music from today.
Nicole Almeida is the director/owner of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Her parents, John and Sophie, opened the studio in 1979 and Nicole took over the studio in 2008. Dancing means a lot to Nicole’s family and bringing that joy into others is what their studio's foundation is built on. Arthur Murray Studio concentrates on social Ballroom Dancing, such as Waltz, Tango, and Foxtrot; Latin Style Dances such as Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Salsa, Samba and Merengue, and the American style dances like Hustle and Swing.
