Hank Meirowitz exhibit at the Southbury Public Library
The Gloria Cachion Gallery at Southbury Public Library will host an exhibit of photographs by Hank Meirowitz entitled “My Travels in the Baltics”. The capital cities of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania will be represented here. The exhibit dates are Saturday, October 29th until Monday, November 28, 2016. The library is located 100 Poverty Rd., Southbury, CT, 203-262-0626.
Hank Meirowitz, a resident of New Milford for many years, formerly the CEO of a textile business in New York City, has proven himself in group shows and solo exhibitions as a photographer with a keen eye for textures and patterns. His work also included four windows of floral framed prints in the windows Bergdorf Goodman in New York City and a full page photograph back in 1959 in Life Magazine on their Miscellany Page of a father with young child on his back in Greenwich Village Art Show. Some of his photographs have also appeared on covers of local art magazines.
His photographic talents have encompassed an assortment of subject matter, including animals, children, rural life and pastoral scenery in and around Connecticut, and, as a result of his passion for gardening, over-sized close-ups of flowers in both Black and White and in color. In black and white his prints are dramatic in their extreme contrast and chiaroscuro effect, balancing black backgrounds against dead-white flowers, cacti, ferns or leaves. With the advent of digital photography, he switched over to color, but still prints some images in black and white, achieving the same results of contrasting dark backgrounds with subject matter.
The exhibit will be open during regular library hours which are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 A.M. to 5:30 P.M., Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 A.M. to 9 P.M., and Saturday from 9:30 A.M. to 4 P.M.
