12/8/2016 - 2016 Holiday Gift Program for Needy Children

The Southbury Needy Fund Holiday gift program is now underway. For 39 years the Fund has provided new clothing and toys for children on the list. For Christmas 2015 the Fund made sure that 156 children from 78 Southbury families in need received plenty of new clothing, books and toys. We expect this year’s list from Social Services to be around the same number of children.

The Town’s Social Services Director, Sandy Saren, provides a list of the families eligible for the program. The Fund then goes out to the community who has made the program an overwhelming success each year by donations of new clothing or monetary contributions.

Support is received from many wonderful residents, as well as churches, the Police Department's Toy Drive, SVFA Women's Auxiliary, Town Hall offices and the Library, PES, GES, LMES elementary schools and RMS, many community organizations and businesses such as banks, financial offices, real estate offices, doctor’s offices, and restaurants.

Each Christmas the children on the Needy Fund list receive new outfits, pajamas, socks and underwear, sweaters, winter hat and mittens and toys. Special needs such as winter coats, snow pants, winter boots, shoes and blankets are also provided.

The Needy Fund also works in coordination with the Senior Center in funding the Holliday Gift Baskets for Seniors.

The Southbury Needy Fund operates on a year-round basis providing emergency services to Southbury residents when there are no other sources available.

As in the past, 100% percent of the money and gifts collected go to the families in need and all administrative services are donated. Tax Deductible donations are accepted year around and can be sent to the Southbury Needy Fund, Inc., PO Box 72, Southbury, CT 06488.

Anyone interested in buying new clothing for a child on this year’s list are asked to contact Sharon M. Lieber by December 8th at 203-264-8743 or via e-mail at for information.
