10/7/2016 - The Wonderful World Of Succulents on October 7, 2016

The Southbury Garden Club will present a fascinating program about succulent plants by Caitilin Driscoll Bloese on Friday, October 7th at 1:00 p.m. at the Southbury Public Library on Poverty Road.

Succulents, with their juicy leaves, stems or roots and endless array of colors have made them a popular choice of gardeners seeking an easy care plant both inside the home and outside in the garden.

Some of the most popular succulents include: aloe; hens-and-chicks; sedum; jade plant, snake plant and Christmas cactus. All cacti are succulents, but not all succulents are cacti.

Caitilin will discuss why we love succulents and how to use them. She will create arrangements using succulents and flowers. She encourages participants to bring in any succulent gardens or containers for display.

Caitilin is Perennial Manager at Shakespeare's Garden, a Garden Center in Brookfield, which includes a garden shop housed in a barn, green-houses, display gardens and plants for sale. She studied Horticulture and Landscape Design at the New York Botanical Gardens, and has 20 years experience in the nursery and design trade. .

Advance reservations are suggested because seating is limited. For full details, please contact Carol Shaw on 203-267-4025 or Cheryl Smith on 781-789-1653.

The program is free, but donations benefiting the club’s scholarship fund are gratefully received.
