9/22/2016 - “Just Eat It” Screening on September 22, 2016

“Just Eat It,” follows filmmakers and food lovers, Jen Rustemeyer and Grant Baldwin as they dive into the issue of food waste from farm, through retail, all the way to the back of their own fridge. After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping cold turkey and survive only on foods that have been discarded. In a nation where one in ten people are food insecure, the images they capture of squandered groceries are both shocking and strangely compelling.

The film explores our systemic obsession with expiration dates, perfect produce and portion sizes, and reveals the core of this seemingly insignificant issue that is having devastating consequences around the globe.

Following the 74 minute film, there will be a 20-30 minute panel discussion comprised of representatives from Southbury and Woodbury Food Banks and local businesses sharing what they are doing to reduce food waste in our community.

Admission is free, but seating is limited. Therefore, please RSVP by emailing the SFC at Also, please bring a non-perishable item to share with our local food banks.
