9/26/2012 - “Southbury Sunday Night at the Movies” Announced

Anne Armeno, Chairman of the Southbury Film Commission (SFC), and its members are pleased to announce the creation of a Film Series. Called “Southbury Sunday Night at the Movies”, the series showcases Independent Films and will begin in October. The SFC is excited to have partnered with Tom Carruthers, Executive Director of the CT Film Festival and Judith Kalfon, General Manager of the Heritage Hotel for this project.

“Southbury Sunday Night at the Movies” will be held at 7PM on following dates:

October 14th Title: “Privacy”
October 28th Title: “The Black Tulip”
November 11th Title: “Confidence Game”
November 25th Title: “Chico & Rita” (2012 Academy Award Nominee)
December 9th Title: Celebrity Comedy Shorts

Trailers of these movies can be viewed on the Southbury Film Commission website starting on October 1st. All films are Independent Films and do not have a rating assigned to them. CT Film Festival recommends that these films are suggested for Adult Audiences and not appropriate for children.

A ticket service has been set up by the CT Film Festival to enable everyone to purchase tickets for one film showing or the entire series from the comfort of their home. If you are interested in attending the showings please log on to http://www.ctfilmfest.com/monthly. Tickets will also be sold at the door. General Admission is normally $12.00 per film. Senior and Students are normally $10.00 per film.

The idea for a Film Series evolved after the Southbury Economic Development Commission’s 2011 Shopper’s Survey revealed that over 75% of respondents felt the town needed a movie theater. While the Film Commission cannot provide a movie theater, these films will be screened at the Heritage Hotel in a tiered seating venue that accommodates 100 people. The Heritage Hotel will also offer concession items for sale at the event to enjoy while watching a film - everything from soft drinks, water, wine, beer, popcorn and candy to a fabulous cheese & cracker platter. Please no outside food or beverage.

The Southbury Film Commission hopes residents and visitors will take this opportunity to create a great night out. Anne states: “Attendees can create a Dinner & Movie Night. Grab loved ones and friends, have dinner at one of Southbury’s fine restaurants, then come and join us and see a film. But save room for snacks!”
