General Info

We use science to ensure the availability of high quality water in the Pomperaug Watershed by protecting the river environment and the aquifer.

About the Organization

The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition was formed by residents of Bethlehem, Woodbury, and Southbury CT in 1999 to protect the quality and quantity of water in the Pomperaug Watershed--a 90 square mile area that provides both water and recreational opportunities for thousands of residents.  The Coalition was created because responsibility for the watershed is divided among towns and state agencies with no agency responsible for the entire watershed.  The Coalition is working to create a partnership between local governments, businesses, environmental organizations and private citizens and regional, state and federal agencies to insure the health and vibrancy of the Pomperaug Watershed.

Volunteer directors of the Coalition represent a broad spectrum of local government, business and environmental interests. With funding from government and foundation grants and private donations, the Coalition maintains a three person professional staff with offices at the Bent of the River Audubon Center in Southbury CT.  The PRWC executive committee meets monthly, with the full board of directors meeting each quarter.

Our office is located at the Bent of the River Audubon Center, 185 East Flat Hill Road in South Britain, Connecticut.  From I-84 Exit 14 in Southbury, take Route 172 north to the village of South Britain and turn left onto East Flat Hill Road. The Center is located approximately ΒΌ mile on the left.  Our office is located in the red barn at the end of the long (about 1/3 mile) dirt driveway.
