Southbury received notification in early August, 2009, that it has been designated as a Preserve America Community.
Special thanks to Anne Westerman and Diantha Schull for their hard work and expertise in making this happen.
Mission/General Information:
Historic District Regulations (Updated regulations have now been uploaded; includes all tables. There are some extra blank pages that we were not able to remove. We apologize.)
A Certificate of Appropriateness is required for any alteration to the exterior of a building in the Southbury Historic District or to demolish a building in the district. You may open the link, complete the form, print and forward to the commission for consideration.
Historic District Touring Brochures Now Available:
Through a grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, we now have two professional touring brochures to guide you through the historic treasures in two of Southbury's Historic Districts. The brochures are available at Town Hall, Library and Museum (in South Britain). Supplies are limited. An online version (lower resolution) can be found at the links below:
Please send your comments about the brochures to the Ed Edelson, CLG Coordinator at 501 Main Street S, Southbury.
History of Kingsland
Southbury is a Certified Local Government (CLG) in Connecticut. What does that mean? More explanation to come. At the next CLG meeting, we will review the Southbury Historical Society's new Strategic Plan. The SHS is a part of Southbury's CLG designation. To view the plan click here.
