Services

Meals-on-Wheels:  This is a non-profit volunteer service of meal delivery for people of any age who are unable to prepare a nutritious, balanced meal for themselves.  Volunteers deliver a hot and cold meal Monday through Friday.  Regular, diabetic and low sodium diets are accomodated.  Meals are abailable on a short or long term basis for a nominal fee.  A sliding fee scale is used for seniors with low, fixed incomes.

Transportation:  Municipal transportation is provided to residents 60+ and the disabled within the Town of Southbury.  Contact 262-0651 to schedule your appointment at least 24 hours in advance.  Fees apply.

Dial-A-Ride services are provided to residents 60+ and the disabled.  Transportation is provided to Waterbury, Danbury and New Haven/West Haven.  Contact Sandy Saren at 262-0653 for schedule and fees.

Friendly Visiting:  Friendly Visitors provide companionship and friendship to people who are essentially isolated and/or homebound through regular, social visits. Volunteers may read aloud, help with writing, play games or even just sit and watch television.

Congregate Meals:  This is an opportunity for seniors to have lunch together at the Community/Senior Center. These well-balanced, nutritious meals are served every Monday and Friday at a small cost to the senior citizens. Prior registration is required.  The requested donation for congregate meals is $2.50.

Municipal Agent:  The Municipal Agent's office provides information, referral and outreach, assisting older citizens with up to date information on ConnPACE, Medicare, Rent Rebate, Tax Credit, Senior Housing and a host of other important issues affecting older citizens.

This office provides information, referral and outreach services to Southbury's senior population.  Other services available include Medicare supplemental health insurance and benefits guidance.  Senior benefits include Connecticut's prescription program (ConnPACE), Connecticut Property Tax Relief including Renters Relief, the energy assistance programs for the elderly, as well as all of the State Of Connecticut Department of Social Service Programs.
